Welcome to Large-Scale Railroading, a new magazine dedicated to celebrating large-scale rideable railroads. Our intent is to share, celebrate and discuss railroads in 7 ¼ to 24 inch gauge that exist in city parks, on private estates, at railroad clubs, hotels, malls and increasingly in larger back yards all over this great land.
Some of the railroads we cover will be live steam, while others are powered by gasoline, batteries, CNG or other fuels. Some of the railroads we will feature offer mass produced equipment, others limited production or one offs. Some are built across hundreds of rural acres and others are built on less than two acres on residential lots. Some are the perfect multi-million dollar operations that we all dream we could one day own, others are more modest in size, but no less spectacular in their own way. Some are truly shortlines and beautiful in their simplicity and modesty.
There are so many great railroad venues out there to visit and appreciate. Some are open to the public, some are clubs and memberships are required, some are private and by invitation only except special occasions… Get out and visit and support a railroad venue near you this weekend and remember ticket sales, purchases and donations keep those trains running for all of us to enjoy.
